ViaSat and SENCORE Offer Compact, Cost-Effective Multistream DVB-S2 Modulation

ViaSat Inc. is providing its SkyPHY®-MSM, an advanced DVB-S2 multistream modulator IP core, to SENCORE as part of a new modulator offering efficiency and flexibility to the satellite market. The new product is designed to process multiple data streams and optimize use of satellite bandwidth to reduce equipment costs and operating expenses. The SENCORE device will be available this spring.

The new SENCORE modulator is a cost-effective two-channel, 1RU chassis that is designed to provide multistream satellite video delivery while minimizing overall transponder use. The product delivers one or two independent DVB-S2 modulations with up to six streams in each, a task that until now required additional or external equipment. The device accepts transport streams via DVB-ASI or IP inputs, which gives users the flexibility to accommodate changes over time.

The SkyPHY-MSM is a customizable DVB-S2 forward link, multistream modulator IP core with a number of new features:

•Only IP core that can handle up to eight ASI input streams, with an architecture that allows for additional streams to be added as needed
•Each stream is independently configurable so users can choose the number of streams to be processed
•Eliminates the need for an external aggregator, which can reduce the amount of required rack space and lower overall capital expenditures
•Optimizes satellite bandwidth by aggregating multiple transport streams on a single satellite carrier to reduce operating expenses

The SkyPHY-MSM DVB-S2 Multistream Modulator IP is part of the family of DVB-S2 products offered by ViaSat, which includes the SkyPHY® ASIC and reference design, small form factor IRD (MIRD), high-speed SCPC modem (ELiTe-S2), and ECC9610 modulator.
