Telephone service reaches all 3,915 VDCs

The state owned telecommunication service provider Nepal Telecom (NT) has informed that telephone services has reached all 3,915 VDCs of the country.
 

 
Surendra Thike, spokesperson of NT said that 199 VDCs across the country has been connected with the country’s telecommunication network through VSAT technology. The VSAT connection was established by NT officials with the coordination of District Development Committee of the respective district, said Shiva Bhushan Lal, director of Satellite Service Directorate at NT.
 
According to the Amarnath Singh, managing director of NT, the company said it has targeted to explore its subscribers to 13 million by adding some 5 million new subscribers in the coming fiscal year.He also said that NT has also planned to facilitate its subscribers with all its services, which includes PSTN, GSM and CDMA.
 
 
NT distributes 32,979 SIM cards in western region
 
Meanwhile, NT board has also approved the proposal of allocating Rs. 48.7 million for the implementation of its upcoming plan in the coming fiscal year. In a bid to add 1.8 million GSM subscribers, it has been increasing its services in sub-urban and rural areas.
 
Nepal Telecom, has distributed some 32,979 SIM cards within a week in the western region of Nepal aided by the special scheme rate for students, reports Dainiki daily.It collected Rs. 16.8 million from the western regional office in Bhairahawa alone, said NT. NT has been distributing some 150 SIM cards daily from its Bhairahawa office.
 
Under the new scheme, it has lowered the price of the SIMs to Rs. 510 from Rs. 1,135.
 
The Telecom distributed SIM cards from July 6 to 12 in western region areas which include Butwal, Bhairahawa, Palpa, Lumbini, Taulihawa, Bardaghat, Mangalpur and Arghakhachi, among others.
 
According to NT, Butwal office recorded the highest number of 10,471 SIM cards sales to students. The amount collected from Butwal office is some Rs. 5.4 million, said Bishnu Prasad Paudel, head of Butwal branch.
 
Likewise, NT has distributed a total of 18, 218 SIMs from its offices in Palpa, Arghakhachi and Gulmi collecting Rs. 9.3 million in revenue.
