TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. Issued U.S. Patent on Secure Satellite Communications

TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. a world leader in highly reliable and secure mobile communication technology, announced the issuance by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office of patent number 7,761,095 titled, "Secure Transmission Over Satellite Phone Network." This technology provides users with the ability to establish secure communications through a non-secure satellite phone from anywhere in the world. Specifically, it protects critical communications through an easy-to-use, reach-back secure communications terminal utilizing almost any satellite phone.
The secure communications terminal is an executive unit that was developed as part of the TCS SwiftLink family of deployable communications solutions. The terminal interfaces an ordinary satellite phone with a secure encryption device, allowing the executive operator to use the satellite network to conduct a secure telephone call from anywhere in the world. The secure communications terminal was developed by TCS to provide high-level military and government personnel with an easy-to-use terminal that provides the highest level of security for their voice and data communications from any location where a satellite phone is operated.

"While the standard satellite phone provides a reliable and near-worldwide connection to communication networks, the challenges are ensuring the operator-friendliness of the phone and the security of the communications," said Drew Morin, chief technology officer of TCS. "This TCS invention integrates specialized technologies into a simple, portable, highly reliable communications system for executive-level personnel to conduct secure voice and data communications from a remote location." TCS now holds 116 patents with over 300 applications pending.
